Join us for the Día de los Muertos community celebration of traditionals music, dance, and art at Evergreen Cemetery.

Enjoy live performances by Senderos’ Centeotl Danza y Baile and Ensamble Musical de Senderos. Stroll through the Cemetery in a self-guided presentation of community altars. Follow the signs through the grounds to view ofrendas (altars) honoring those buried at Evergreen Cemetery created by local community organizations and members. If you wish to build an altar sharing your tradition and story of your loved one, you can find more information here.

See the MAH's community-sourced art installation Recordando Recuerdos with a viewing of the in-progress ribbon installation. You can share your memorial or story for the art piece here:

Call for community altars:

The MAH invites you - Evergreen families, community members, groups, and organizations - to build an altar as part of the outdoor celebration of Dia de los Muertos in Evergreen Cemetery. Our goal is to bring together numerous and varied stories that honor, remember and celebrate loved ones in our community.

We are requesting interested folks to:
build a small altar (5ft x 5ft) around a plot along designated path
share and write the story behind the person/people/group/moment you are honoring**
share and write short bio about yourself/your organization is encouraged**
** the written portion can be a paragraph, a name, or a sentence - all is okay

We invite traditional, contemporary and experimental altar designs that address loss on a social, spiritual and/or personal level. Ultimately, we hope to provide an environment for our community to come together, celebrate, and honor the emotions connected to loss.

Ongoing Community Collaboration: Recordando Recuerdos

Recordando Recuerdos translates to remembering memories and will be a community-sourced piece honoring life, death, and loss. This community piece began in 2020 as the pandemic crisis experienced in our community became significantly more visible. It was an invitation and reminder of the power of collective mourning and care.

Recordando Recuerdos continues to grow and we invite you to share your story on a collaborative artwork made of vibrant colors with names of loved ones, objects, and moments lost that you wish to honor and remember.

Fill out the form and honor what you have lost here: Español | English

The piece will be assembled by MAH staff throughout the month of October. Recordando Recuerdos will be displayed at the Dia de los Muertos at Evergreen Cemetery Saturday, October 30 and later hung above the community ofrenda in the MAH atrium Sunday, October 31, 2021 - Thursday, November 4, 2021.
