Picturing the West: Tom Trujillo and Artists of the American West

Hand-colored lithographs and wood engravings from nineteenth centuary artits in the American West.

Exhibited March 26, 2005-June 19, 2005

Indians, trappers, traders, settlers, the Pony Express, and railroad construction are all subjects illustrated in hand-colored lithographs and wood engravings from the nineteenth century in Artists of the American West. The artists featured – John J. Audubon, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, among others – provided “news” of the romantic and sometimes dangerous West as it was revealed through exploration. In the same way, native California artist Tom Trujillo reveals the insights and discoveries of his encounters with the “new” cultures of the West Coast.
